St. Aloysius College is the first ever college to introduce computer animation subjects at undergraduate level.
The department of computer animation was established in 2009 with a view to provide technical education to B.A. and B.Sc. students. The college is offering this course as an optional paper for BA Journalism and B.Sc. (Physics, Animation, Chemistry, Mathematics) students, with the upper limit on seats being 40.
It is a sub-division of Department of Computer Science and Applications which features a well equipped computer lab and dedicated & experienced faculty members.
The department conducts seminars and workshops on latest computer technologies, new trends in animation and software oriented workshops in collaboration with Department of Computer Science and Applications. Resource persons from industries and other colleges are invited as guest lecturers.
The course is spread across 6 semesters. It is designed in such a way that it helps the students to make a successful career in the field of animation. Classes are conducted using ICT technology and due importance is given to theory as well as practicals. This course is also a good choice for students interested in visual arts, painting, computers graphics, animation and internet related technologies.
Scope of the course:
There is a vast scope for animation and graphics in India and abroad. Companies like Paprika’s, Yahoo, Google, DreamWorks etc. are hiring animation students every year. The course is designed in such a way that a student can learn all the aspects of animation and computer graphics. Students are trained in logo designing, poster, photo editing and print media, 2D and 3D animation, Website creation, video editing and vfx etc.
Objectives of the department:
- The department of Computer Science and Applications aims at the formation of good human beings equipped with tools of IT.
- It trains the students in latest technologies which would facilitate their employment opportunities.
- It creates opportunities for students to exhibit their skills in teamwork and competitive learning through projects and student research papers.
The syllabus for computer animation course comprises creation of art and graphics for print and broadcasting media such as logo, magazine cover and news paper layout designing, 2D key frame animation, 3D animation, lighting and texturing, video editing and compositing, VFX basics and web designing with HTML and CSS. There will be assignments on each paper in every semester.
The department has all the facilities required by the students to create animation. Green and blue screen studio, cameras, computer lab, and other lighting equipment are all available. Besides students can visit the studio of MCMS Department and they can learn the actual video production process. They can also visit the FM radio station of our college, ‘Sarang 100.7’.

Who can join this course?
A student with PUC pass or 10+2 is eligible to take admission for B.A. with computer animation. However for BSc computer animation a student has to pass PUC or 10+2 with science subjects.
Can I go for masters in animation after this?
Yes. One can go for masters in visual effects and animation. Many Indian and foreign universities are offering masters in gaming and animation.
Is there any scope for animation?
Yes. There is a huge opportunity for animation students. They can work as graphic designers, web designers, character modelers, video editors in film and visual effect artists.
Do we have to create a project at the end of each semester?
No, there will be mini projects or assignments on each subject at semester-end. Students can however create their own demos at the end of the course.
Is there any placement assistance for students?
